To drill holes in the rear tailgate plastic hinge covers, use the provided template that is included in your original packaging. It is recommended that you use a bit similar to this 1 1/8" spade bit or any step down bit larger than 1” bigger. How tight should the bolts be?
Be sure to not over tighten the bolts. Over tightening may break the bolt head, strip the threads or even worse - strip the hex key head on the bolt. We recommend that you "hand tighten" the bolts with the supplied tool in your kit.
What do i do if the installation hardware is not lining up with the OEM tailgate’s internal threads?
If your hardware that was included with your GR8 Mount is not “catching"/threading” into the OEM tailgates internally threaded nut, simple minor adjustments may be required. Installation issues of this manner comes from a margin or gap directly resulting from factory installation of the tailgate, hinges and internally threaded nut plate.
WHAT TO DO: The top hinge’s left and right internally threaded nuts are attached to a horizontal plate that spans the distance between the left and right bolt access holes. The same goes for the bottom hinge. In order to fill that margin/gap from the factory, you must use your 13mm socket wrench to loosen the TOP LEFT and BOTTOM LEFT OEM bolts and slide the internally threaded nut plate over to accommodate the provided installation hardware. Each tailgate may have a different tolerance/margin, therefore moving the internal plate over to accommodate is a case by case scenario. We recommend inserting GR8 Mount provided bolts into the top right and bottom right access holes during this process to help line up the threaded internal plate.
**DO NOT remove the top or bottom left bolts completely and DO NOT open the tailgate while ANY hardware is not fully tightened.**
Is using loctite on the bolts ok?
Using the recommended amount of Loctite's Threadlocker Blue on automotive bolts is always a good idea. Loctite helps prevent the rusting of threads, can be removed with hand tools and ultimately prevents loosening caused by vibration.
What is the best flag pole solution?
We have seen a lot of our customers use a wood dowel. Yes, one that you would normally find in a closet. It fits in the GR8 Mount perfectly, allows the hand knob to bite into the wood and is durable. We also recommend using stainless steel screw eye rings and metal spring links to attach the flag to the pole.
What is a good flag to use?
It is simply user preference. Depending on how much lift you want or how much wind your flag can sustain without tearing or ripping all depends the material it is made from. A lighter Nylon flag requires less wind speed for lift, as opposed to a heavier flag woven out of two-ply polyester. We have no formal partnership with Gettysburg Flag Works but their products are also made in the USA and come highly recommended.
What can I fit inside my Gr8 Mount?
You can fit anything you want in your mount up to a certain diameter including a wood dowel flag pole, most beach umbrellas and even some surf fishing rods. The possibilities of applications and how you utilize the mount can be endless. Check out our social media to see how other customer's utilized their mounts.
Can I use other knob styles with the Gr8 Mount?
You can use any style knob you prefer that has a 3/8”-16 threaded stud.
